| Answer 1: |
ArcView by ESRI It incorporates mapping and
database utilities with nearly 100% accuracy (it's all via satellite technology). It's
fairly easy to use (with a little playing around) and is pretty much "the
standard"

Excel It takes a while to setup your map, because
you have to manually input in Excel enough X:Y coordinates to make up a reasonable
coastline. Once you've done this, though (3-4 hours of work) you can make the coastline
one series and all other X:Y pairs other series of data. The graph is therefore the X:Y
kind where the X scale is inverted (so that it increases to the left - west). Also,
because Lats and Longs are not decimal, you must convert minutes to a decimal scale. This
is done easily with a macro in Excel. |

| Answer 3: |
Arcview by Esri and GDOC Use arcview, for complex
mapping and overlays, and a program created by the US Coast Guard called "GDOC".
GDOC this will allow the input of lattitude and longitude and will calculate distance from
two lattitude and longitude coordinates. It also lets you put icons on the map and has the
coastline and major islands for the entire world. |

| Answer 4: |
SYSTAT/SYGRAPH includes a world map and requires input of capture
coordinates only. A learning curve is involved. Map is drawn first, then grid with capture
coordinates are superimposed. For an example:
